NewOrleans.com/Sports is reporting that Nicholls State football coach Jay Thomas has coached his last game for the Colonels.Thomas told the Web site that he was informed of his firing mid-week. The formal announcement is expected Friday.
Thomas has coached at Nicholls for 12 years, including the last 5 years as head coach. His last winning season with the Colonels was in 2007, when the team went 6-5. NSU was 3-6 last year and with Thursday's 45-30 win over Southeastern, ends this season 3-8.
